Left-Handed Learners - Positive and practical strategies

About this session

This a 'hands on' practical session looking at and trying out various tasks using both right and left hands helping participants better undertand the potential difficulties faced by left-handed children. The session provides simple strategies that can be used to help left-handed learners with practical tasks with an emphasis on handwriting, including common difficulties such as smudging. We will also look at other useful tip and left-handed resources.

By the end of the session you'll be more confident in helping your left-handed learners, helping them to speedier and unsmudged writing, better presentation and increased self esteem.

Session Leader:

Mark Stewart

Mark Stewart (right-handed!) started his “Left-handed” journey in 1992 when his youngest son showed strong signs of being left-handed. In fact, his son is left-eye dominant, left-handed, and left-footed!

Along with his wife, Heather, they opened “Anything Left-Handed” in Worcester in 1994 and with Heather being an ex-Primary School teacher, they were immediately drawn to the educational side of being left-handed and found that there was minimal active help/training within the UK Education System.

They have have campaigned for greater awareness of the challenges left-handed children face and are the authors of numerous books and resources for professionals and parents, as as being a founding members of the Lefthanders Educational Forum and Training International Network that has a global membership.
