Session One: Intellectual Property Rights

This session will cover:
- The various types of Intellectual Property Rights and the distinctions between them
- How each type of IP arises
- Whether you need to register your IP
Facilitator: Piers Strickland, Joint Head of Intellectual Property and Dispute Resolution
Piers specialises in advising clients on disputes involving all forms of intellectual property law.
Piers also has extensive experience in the field of confidential information, and advises on general IT and contract disputes, often relating to computer software.
Session Two: Commercial Contracts

This session will cover:
- The most negotiated clauses in technology contracts
- Liabilities, Warranties, Indemnities, Termination Provisions
- What to watch out for when signing commercial contracts
- How to respond to requests for contract changes related to COVID-19.
Facilitator: Alison Berryman, Partner & Head of Technology and Commercial Law
Alison specialises in drafting and negotiating a broad variety of commercial contracts, particularly for SMEs in the technology sector.
Alison’s practice focusses on the supply side (both B2B and B2C), especially software developers/resellers, SaaS providers, systems integrators, IT suppliers and providers of online services.
Session Three: Investments

- Avoiding common pitfalls in the investment landscape.
Facilitator: Angus Young, Partner specialising in Corporate Law
Angus has a broad range of corporate and commercial experience, including in mergers and acquisitions, venture capital, cross border transactions, joint ventures, long-term/complex commercial arrangements, restructuring & insolvency and industry/business restructures. He also advises clients on general corporate and commercial matters.
Angus has worked across a wide range of sectors, including IT, fintech, venture capital, life sciences, telecommunications, retail and energy & resources, including for both domestic and international clients.
Session Four: Privacy and Data Protection

This session will provide:
- Introduction to GDPR: Your obligations as a business owner
- Top tips for compliance
- Privacy and data protection: mistakes to avoid
- Changes to UK guidance and enforcement on data protection in relation to COVID-19.
Facilitator: Jessica Vautier, Associate
Jessica specialises in IT & commercial law.
Jessica’s previous in-house roles have given her a deep understanding of client organisations and the requirements of in-house counsel. She has experience of a broad range of commercial matters, including drafting standard terms and website T&Cs, and negotiation of software development, licence and support agreements, professional services agreements, supply of goods and services (both supplier and client-side), and research and collaboration agreements.
