Event description

Description

The session will focus on supporting caseworkers to identify legal issues and sources of help for constituents.

The session will help caseworkers to:-

  • understand the difference between public law and other branches of law
  • explore the difference between law and policy when dealing with constituents problems
  • distinguish a range of different options and solutions for constituents that may be experiencing legal issue

This session will be delivered by David Locke QC, a former MP, now practising as a Barrister with Landmark Chambers.

About caseworkers training:

LawWorks works with you by delivering bespoke training in spotting and dealing with constituents’ legal problems.* LawWorks believes that caseworkers’ ability to serve MPs is enhanced, as is MPs’ profile, when, in addition to any action MPs may take on behalf of constituents, legal issues are referred on to third parties with relevant expertise.

We work with you to develop an impactful programme that fits with your role of supporting and promoting MPs and enhances your skill-set.

How caseworkers can help:

Twin-track approach to problem solving: Legal solutions to constituents’ problems can sit alongside political solutions: referrals can be made in parallel with MPs actions.

Local referral agencies and legal advice: knowing where to refer constituents’ legal problems can be daunting. Caseworkers’ training will provide the knowledge and skills for making effective referrals.

Promoting MPs as effective problem solvers: referring constituents’ legal problems to relevant local legal expertise, in addition to any political action taken by MPs, enhances the service provided to constituents.
