Event description

Description

The Scottish Public Law Group is delighted to announce an evening event, being held in the Room 301, McCance Building, University of Strathclyde, 16 Richmond Street, Glasgow, G1 1XQ on 27 April 2018.

This event is free and will attract 1.5 hours of CPD.

While Brexit negotiations have drawn wider media interests onto the Brussels stage in recent months, the European Union (Legal Continuity) Bill and the UK Withdrawal from the European Union (Legal Continuity) (Scotland) Bill have been steadily working their way through Westminster and Holyrood respectively. While these Bills are both raising interesting constitutional and legislative drafting issues for lawyers generally, they are also heralding potentially far reaching changes in the relationship between the two legislatures and their executives. Different ways of working are emerging as to how business is being carried out. It remains to be seen what kind of future changes we can expect as a result of the passage of these Bills and their handling. This event will look at how the dynamics and ways of working in Westminster and Holyroood are being affected and changed by the Withdrawal Bills and whether they may be changing established constitutional certainties.

Our panel of speakers for the evening will inform us about these issues from their different perspectives. The panel comprises:

  • Dr Jack Simson Caird, Senior Clerk at the House of Commons Library, and
  • Professor Aileen McHarg, Professor of Public Law, Strathclyde University.

Registration is from 17:15. The talks will start at 17:45 and the evening will finish with a drinks reception from 19:15 to 19:45.
