Why attend?

Having an understanding of the relevant legislation is important for any business working in the construction industry, whether that legislation applies directly to them, or indirectly via their supply chain / main contractor. However, keeping up to date with the changes can be time-consuming and difficult. This seminar will provide a summary of the main changes found in construction legislation and contracts over the last few years.

Who should attend?

Anyone in the construction industry who is interested in construction legislation, especially project managers, contract managers, in-house counsel, HR managers, site foremen, site managers, and small business owners.

Content includes:

  • Building Regulations: Legislative framework underpinning Building Regulations and how they are enforced
  • Dispute Resolution: Dispute resolution options including adjudication, arbitration and litigation, mediation, expert determination and early neutral evaluation
  • Modern Slavery: Understanding and complying with the Modern Slavery Act 2015
  • New Forms of Contract: Contracts including JCT, NEC, RIBA, DOM/1 and DOM/2 forms

Speaker Profiles

Stuart Murphy

Stuart is a Partner in Carson McDowell LLP and head of the firm’s Construction Law Team. He has over 25 years’ experience of advising construction clients in relation to both contentious and non-contentious matters in Northern Ireland, Great Britain and internationally. He has extensive experience of the major industry standard forms of contract such as NEC, JCT, RIBA, ICC, FIDIC, ACE and many others. He also regularly acts for clients in construction disputes, including mediations, adjudications, arbitrations and litigation.

Clare Bates

Clare is the Director of Legal Operations and Compliance in Carson McDowell LLP and is a lawyer and former Partner in the firm.

Clare has an in-depth knowledge of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and has drafted Modern Anti-Slavery policies and conducted risk assessments. She has provided bespoke training both for the firm and clients of the firm in a wide range of compliance issues including the Modern Slavery Act, GDPR, record keeping, AML and conflicts of interest.
