Overview

Helping students deal with big changes and transitions in their lives through practical tips and emotional support.

Supporting Students to cope with Change and transition

This practical session looks at how change and transitions affect children and young people. Life events like moving school, changing class, family separation, or loss can have a big impact on a pupil's mood and behaviour in the classroom and school environment.

This training will give you and understanding on the impact of change and transition on wellbeing and emotional health, and will cover evidence-based, practical strategies to help you support your pupils effectively during these unsettling times.

In this session, you will learn:

  • How different types of change can impact a child’s wellbeing and learning.
  • The key signs to look for when a pupil might be struggling with a transition.
  • Simple and effective ways to support a child directly within the school day.
  • How to create a supportive environment that helps all pupils feel more secure.

Please note the training does not cover gender transitions.

This is an interactive session with exercises that ask for responses and involvement from attendees to maximise how applicable the session can be to your settings and experiences. With this aim in mind, we ask that, if possible, your equipment has a functioning microphone and camera.

If possible, please ensure that you are in a suitable space to interact within the session. All microphones will be muted at the start of the session to minimise background noise. You can unmute to contribute at any point. We encourage cameras on where possible. Please ensure that nothing private or confidential is visible in your background (e.g., notice board, students).

PLEASE NOTE: this training session is only available to staff employed by schools and colleges within the Lancashire County Council area. Places cannot be allocated to people employed by other services or who work in schools outside this area.

This training is fully funded by LCC and there is no charge to staff directly employed by a school or college within the LCC area.

Please use your school or college email on registration to demonstrate your eligibility.

Presentation slides and resources will be shared with all attendees after each session. We aim to foster a safe, confidential space in our training sessions where attendees are comfortable to contribute and share experiences if they wish. We do not allow the use of AI note-taking tools within our training sessions, and if AI tools join a meeting they will be removed and excluded from the session.
