Leicestershire's Learning Support Team Cognition & Learning Surgeries 25-26

NEW for 2025!

Every LA maintained school or academy, and FE provider in Leicestershire is entitled to free cognition and learning surgeries with the Specialist Teaching Service Learning Support Team (LST).

Charlie and Thea are the LST Specialist Advisory Teachers. They are both fully qualified and highly experienced specialist teachers, assessors, and tutors who have both worked in SEND within the LA for over twenty-five years.

Giving free advice to support learners remains LSTs core offer and the response to the advice given continues to be extremely positive.

LSTs new offer of Cognition and Learning Surgeries replaces the previous consultation offer. Supporting your graduated response to need and evidence gathering for individual learners, C+L surgeries are pupil focussed, putting the learner at the centre of all advice.

Areas of discussion around a pupil might be:

• early identification of learning needs linked to literacy
• literacy skills and intervention
• maths attainment and intervention
• dyslexia
• dyscalculia
• tools for creating a learning profile
• unpicking a report or school based assessments and observations
• ways to evidence and monitor provision

Surgeries are available on Mondays and Wednesdays. They are one hour slots during which one or two pupils can be discussed. Pupils can be discussed anonymously, or the pupil can be named. If named, the evidence of advice given will then be stored for future reference with regard to requests for SENIF or EHCPNA.

It is expected that SENCOs primarily, possibly with a class teacher or teaching asisstant, and Inclusion Managers and staff will take up this offer.
