Leith is Burning is presented to you by LGBT Health & Wellbeing and The State as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts & Film Festival 2016.
Leith is Burning comprises of a day of vogue themed activities culminating in a celebratory end of festival vogue ball on Sunday 30th October 2016.
Join us for some or all of the activities, just let us know via this booking form.
Cost is free for those who cannot afford it, for those who can, the following are suggested donations that will be collected on the day. Film Screening £3, Dance workshop £12, Ball £5.
Doors open from 1pm.
1.30-3.30pm Paris is Burning Film Screening & Discussion
Filmed in the mid-to-late 1980s, it shows the ball culture of New York City and African- American, Latino, gay and transgender communities involved in it. Join us for a film screening and panel disucssion on the significance and legacy of the film to modern day vogueing and queer identities. Popcorn provided!
4-6pm Vogue Dance Workshop
Be prepared to break a sweat, as Kevin Revlon hosts a very special vogueing workshop that will focus on the different elements of vogue performance. Class will focus on bringing out your true self and finding your own unique vogue style. Bring clothes suitable for movement.
8-11pm Kiki Vogue Ball
Celebration of underground ballroom and vogue culture with a 1990s theme. Perform, watch, cheer, dance, socialise, drink and generally get your vogue on! Dress code: make an effort - sparkle, dazzle, celebrate being yourself. Theme: 1990s! Check out our facebook page for more inspriation
This event is suitable for those aged 16 and over and proof of age may be required to buy alcohol at the cash bar in the evening.
