About this event

Arts • Fine Art

For over three decades Len Grant documented the regeneration of Manchester and Salford as a freelance documentary photographer. He made books and exhibitions about the construction of key buildings during the 90s and early 2000s and went on to chronicle neighbourhood renewal particularly in east Manchester.

Having never drawn as an adult he discovered urban sketching in 2013 and has since gradually swapped his camera for a sketchbook and pen. He now uses drawing as a way of telling stories about his city and can often be spotted perched on his little stool at a road junction or inside a local bar.

October sees the publication of ‘Len Grant’s Chorlton Sketchbook’, the fourth book in what he calls his neighbourhood series focussing on different city suburbs. This 104-page sketchbook includes dozens of Len’s idiosyncratic drawings, many accompanied by short commentaries on his sketching adventures.
