Inspired by LGSM we bring you Lesbians & Gays support the libraries. An LGBT+ history event with a library talk, film screening & afterparty
About this event
A partnership event with Save Nottingham Libraries Campaign, Radford Lenton Library, Savoy Cinema, Five Leaves Bookshop and The New Foresters.
3 Nottingham libraries are under threat of closure - 2 of which were built with miners money. These are community liraries and safe spaces for all and we must save them. Inspired by the history of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners we have arranged this partnership event in the same spirit.
Please join us for a talk in Radford Lenton library touching on LGBT+ history and activism, LGBT+ literature and of course a brief introduction to the campaign and the history of the threatened libraries. Our main speaker is Nicola Field. Nicola is the author of Over the Rainbow: LGBT+ Liberation for the 21st Century and was an original member of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners and appears on the illustration.
The talk will be followed by a screening at Savoy Cinema of the 2014 film Pride inspired by the true events of LGBT and miner solidarity during the miners strike. After this we can head to Nottingham's oldest and most lovely LGBT+ venue the New Foresters for an after party with food.
This event celebrates our LGBT+ community as well as our libraries, and all are welcome.
