About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Join us for the launch of a new pop-up exhibition exploring the hidden history and complex legacies of colonial-era fisheries in Lake Malawi. The exhibition examines how two distinct fisheries management systems developed in parallel during the mid-twentieth century—one led by the colonial government and another by Senior Chief Makanjira at Mbenji Island.

This special evening will feature a roundtable discussion and reception with members of the research team.

We exist to help coordinate, represent and support the many people-to-people and community-to-community links between Scotland and Malawi. We are an independent, politically-neutral charity core funded by successive Scottish Governments.

Scotland's links with Malawi date back to 1859 and the travels of Scottish explorer Dr David Livingstone.

Today, more than 94,000 Scots and 198,000 Malawians are actively involved in community-led partnerships between our two nations.

44.5% of Scots -almost half the country- can name a friend or family member with a connection to Malawi, making this one of the world's strongest north-south people-to-people links.
