This presentation will explore the experiences and support needs of neurodivergent individuals in prisons and prison-based offending behaviour interventions. Whilst offering support for professionals from a variety of disciplines on how to best work with neurodivergent individuals in a range of criminal justice contexts.

Dr Luke P Vinter

Senior Lecturer in Applied Criminology
Luke is a Senior Lecturer in Applied Criminology based in the Centre for Applied Social Science, Policy, Practice and Research at the University of Derby, and is a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society. Luke engages in applied forensic psychology and criminology research, primarily centred around the theme of working with and enhancing support for neurodivergent individuals in the criminal justice system. The majority of Luke’s work to date has focussed on exploring the experiences and support needs of autistic individuals in prisons and prison-based offending behaviour interventions. Luke has collaborated with external organisations both nationally (e.g. HMPPS) and internationally (e.g., ICCLR), to advise and support professionals from a variety of disciplines on how to best work with neurodivergent individuals in a range of criminal justice contexts; and he has a strong track record of delivering research-informed autism training workshops to a wide range of external partners.

This event will be chaired by our Network Member, Dr David Maguire, Director of Prison Reform Trust's Building Futures project.

This event welcomes lived experience experts, charity leaders, local authorities, education providers, prison educators, HMPPS staff, academics, students, policy representatives and practitioners.
