Since the age of so-called ‘enlightenment’, western esoteric, occult or magical beliefs have been viewed with contempt. Science, modern philosophy and religion became the mainstream of belief systems, with esoteric beliefs and practices consigned to the ‘waste bin’ as invalid and unsafe currents of thought. Yet there remains strong undercurrents of interest and practices in the fields of alchemy, astrology, clairvoyance, cunning practices, divination, magic, magical – herbalism, mythology, the occult, paganism, spellcasting, symbolism and the Wiccan religion. The House of Zophiel is a meeting space for people interested in the esoteric, the creative and the occult. We don’t ascribe to or perpetuate any particular view of the world. We do encourage exploration, debate, respectful exchange and a critical mind.
