Event description

Description

Nelson Mandela, who spent 27 years in prison, said:

The cell is an ideal place to know yourself. People tend to measure themselves by external accomplishments, but jail allows a person to focus on internal ones, such as honesty, sincerity, simplicity, humility, generosity and an absence of variety. You learn to look into yourself.

Let us go, sit in our cell...

...and our cell will teach us everything

Alan Hodgetts has been Managing Chaplain of HMP Woodhill since 2006 with 25+ years of parish ministry. A trained Spiritual Director in the Ignatian Tradition and more recently a Certified Teacher of the Enneagram in the Narrative Tradition, he arranged and helped to guide the first Enneagram Prison Project in a UK prison.

Alan will teach us ‘Presence Practice’ to help explore what Abba Moses meant by saying our ‘Cell will teach us everything’. He will also help us explore why we do what we do and how the Enneagram can inspire transformation through Self- Awareness, Self-Regulation and Self-Compassion. “Once we recognise the prisons we make for ourselves – then not only will the Lord come to us as He promised ( Mt. 25.37) – but we discover the Truth that can set us free (Jn. 8.32)

To help prepare for the day with some self-awareness, Alan asks you try to get a sense of your type structure and how you might tick by going to:

https://www.enneagramworldwide.com/tour-the-nine-types/. Hover your mouse over the 9 Enneagram numbers and check out the descriptions. Together we can use that knowledge on the Day to grow our relationship with God and with each other.
