'Let's connect': Better Start Bradford shared learning event - focusing on...
Thu 8 June 2017, 12:00 – 16:30
Better Start Bradford invites you to be a part of our upcoming shared learning event. Our focus of this event is parent infant relationships and the impact of this on early childhood development. The event is designed to provide you the opportunity to hear about research, policy and local practice to benefit all you are doing each day to support families with young children.
If you work or volunteer with families who are pregnant or have children under four, or are a parent yourself, then we would love to see you there.
We are looking forward to welcoming Professor Elizabeth Meins, a developmental psychologist at the University of York, as our special guest speaker. Professor Meins has been studying how parents interact with their babies for almost 30 years. Her research has shown how “tuning in” to your child (so-called mind-mindedness) has a positive impact on parenting and wide-ranging aspects of children’s development.
Her research is being used to inform professional practice within various NHS services and NSPCC programmes. She currently holds an Economic and Social Research Council Professorial Fellowship, in which she is assessing whether a smartphone app is effective in facilitating parents’ mind-mindedness.
Our focus on 'parent-infant relationships' will also be brought to life by our local guest speaker: Jane Dickens. Jane is a Bradford health visitor and parent infant mental health champion. Her background has greatly influenced her current work, where she was a specialist infant feeding midwife, working closely with the parent infant relationship with regard to feeding. This offered her the opportunity to support the subtle relationships which develop between parents and their baby. Jane along with her team continue to develop tools and ways of supporting all professionals and parents in gaining a deeper understanding of their baby, through understanding the influence of their relationship on the long term social and emotional development of their child.
Our Shared Learning Event is taking place on Thursday 8 June 2017 at City Training Conference Centre in Bradford. We have limited places available for this event, so book early. Those working within the Better Start Bradford area and Better Start Bradford parents will be prioritised.
Drinks and light lunch will be available for you from 12pm, whilst you sign in, network and have time to visit the information stands.
Who else will be there?
Through our Better Start Bradford Learning Together events (shared learning events and knowledge cafes) we aim to provide on-going networking and informal learning opportunities for our Better Start Bradford workforce. These opportunities are open to all those working with families with under-4s or expecting babies, community leaders and families wanting to learn more. You’ll find below info on these opportunities, plus resources, research and ideas.
