Let's Get Real: Young Audiences Conference 2017 #LGRYA17

Exploring arts, heritage and digital - for and with children and teenagers.

Digital content, channels and tools offer a multitude of experiences and environments that young audiences use and enjoy every day. If arts and heritage organisations are to be relevant to the next generation they need to understand and make the most of this massive opportunity.

How can we make our digital offer relevant to children and teenagers? What do they really need and want from the cultural sector? Why is it so hard for museums, galleries, theatres, archives and the like to reach and engage these young audiences online? How can we weave digital into our offer and our practice in meaningful, useful ways that will increase and deepen engagement with them? What about teachers – how do we best support them too?

Join us to explore these questions and more in an affordable day of inspiration, insights and learning, curated by Culture24's Anra Kennedy. You’ll hear from experts within and beyond the arts and heritage sector; learn about what works and what doesn’t; hear from young audiences and meet lots of colleagues with similar aims and challenges. You’ll leave with practical, actionable advice to help you shape the way you think about digital in your work.

Who is the conference for?

Culture24's Let’s Get Real conferences are for anyone with an interest in how cultural organisations can make the most of the opportunities digital channels and tools afford. This one, with its focus on young audiences, is particularly designed for:

 - Practitioners and managers from museums, galleries, archives, heritage sites, theatres and other visual and  performing arts and heritage organisations
 - Learning professionals with an interest in digital cultural learning
 - Publishers and technologists working in learning/cultural fields
 - Professionals providing services/consultancy to cultural organisations
 - Decision makers from funding, strategic and policy bodies

Evening TeachMeet

Straight after the conference we'll also be running a TeachMeet event, mixing teachers with curators and education officers from museums, galleries and arts organisations from across the UK. The event, #TMCulture24, will bring the worlds of education, culture and arts, and digital media together, with a special focus on using digital collections - objects, artworks and the stories they tell - to support teaching and learning.

The TeachMeet is kindly sponsored by Waterloo200 Legacy's 'The Age of Revolution' project.

 

Our second conference on this theme - here's what delegates said about the last one, called Connecting Collections, held in 2015 at the National Maritime Museum:

We are best known for publishing great websites about culture; producing the successful Museums at Night festival of after-hours openings, and leading Let’s Get Real, the collaborative action research project involving cultural organisations across the UK and Europe. We also aggregate and share data about thousands of cultural events exhibitions and venues with a range of partners including the BBC.

Culture24 provides platforms, networks and safe, collaborative spaces within which cultural organisations can work together to reach and engage audiences, benchmark, experiment and learn.
