What is - Let's Get This Lit?

It's a workshop designed to provide you with a good solid foundation to build off. We will be running manual mode and manual flash no Auto modes at all.

After the introductions we will start by talking about the gear needed to get started with off camera flash and some of the stuff you don't need starting out.

Once that is done we will get to work on the foundations of photography and working with off cameras flash.

Before the flash is turned on we will look at available light and the exposure triangle… You must have a solid understanding of this before you turn a flash on and too many workshops miss this part out.

We will be looking at... (deep breath)

· Gear (Camera, Lights, Triggers, Stands, Modifiers)

· A simple kit to get started.

· Camera Set-up (White Balance, Screen, AF)

· Exposure (Ambient Light) - must start here.

· Reciprocal Exposures.

· Flash Exposure Variables.

· Sync Speed.

· Ambient & Flash.

· Inverse Square Law.

· Light Modifiers and the differences between them.

. Light patterns.

· The limitations of speedlites/small flash.

· Getting started on a shoot - Got to start simple.

· Communication with your subject/client

This is a full day of learning, so you will get a lot of hands on shooting time.

We will have an experienced model to photograph during the workshop and of course I will be on hand to help throughout the day.

The way I will run this is quite organic, if someone has a question at any point we can stop and answer it or if applicable shoot a demo to answer it. Also the day will end with a Q & A session. I want to make sure you understand this stuff before you leave.

Once you have booked your place you will be emailed a copy of the presentation (PDF) that you will see at the workshop, this is a document to refer back to every now and again to help you going forwards and it also has a few example images and lighting diagrams in so you can get to work straight away.

If you want to get that flash off the camera or finally break out the light, you got last year this is the workshop for you.

I recommend that you spend some time getting to grips with your camera, menus and buttons... find how to change white balance and kick it to manual. I will be happy to help on the day but this workshop is to learn the technical stuff not camera 101.

As well as all of this you will also get a complimentary 1 hour video chat session with me or a 1 hour 121 training session (value £35). Please note this must be booked/taken within 2 months of the workshop date.

What Gear I Need

A Camera - DSLR, Mirrorless… something with a hot shoe and manual mode. If you are shooting an older Sony DSLR (A300 for example) you will need a hot shoe adapter that converts their older (none standard) hot shoe to the industry standard. You can see an example adapter via the link below.

http://goo.gl/S2knTL (It is up to you to bring one if needed)

A lens or 2 - Any zoom lens will do, or you can bring a few. The less you bring the more you can focus on the day. A focal length 18-55 or 18-200 will be fine for what we will be doing on the day.

Light & Triggers - you don’t need to bring these as I will have mine on the day. However, if you have questions about yours then we can look at them towards the end of the day.

Number of spaces: 10 total. (Book soon to secure your space)

Cost: £125.00

You can book your space via this store. Your email address will be required so I can build a contact list to email the workshop PDF to you. You can print it or bring it along on your tablet, but you won't need it that much during the day as it is more for reference after the workshop.

Cancellation Statement - If you must cancel your space on the workshop then please email me at rick@rjbradbury.com and I can add the space back in the store. Please note that if you cancel within 2 weeks of the event there is a fee to be paid of £60 and if you cancel within 1 week no refund will be given this is due to the costs of booking a model and arranging food/refreshments for the day. You will be refunded the remainder of the workshop fee minus this payment. By booking on this workshop you are agreeing to the above cancellation statement and thank you for understanding.

All bookings must be made online. No cash on the day bookings will be accepted.

I look forward to meeting you on the day.
