Explore, Discover, and Learn with the Canal & River Trust’s Explorers Programme

At the Canal & River Trust, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to explore the great outdoors, discover nature, and learn about the rich history of our waterways. Our Explorers programme is designed for children aged 5 to 12, offering fun, interactive learning experiences that bring our canals and rivers to life.

Through our free workshops, school visits, and family-friendly events, we introduce young minds to the fascinating world of wildlife, engineering, and history, all while reinforcing the importance of water safety. Whether it’s pond dipping, uncovering the secrets of canal locks, or spotting kingfishers along the towpath, our activities help children connect with the natural world in a meaningful way.

We’re a Charity – and We Need Your Support

Our canals and rivers have been part of our history for over 250 years, providing vital green and blue spaces that millions of people enjoy today. But they need our care. As a charity, the Canal & River Trust relies on public support to help protect 2,000 miles of waterways across England and Wales.

By taking part in our Explorers events, you’re not only giving children the chance to learn and have fun, but you’re also helping to ensure these waterways remain special places for future generations.
