Description
In this free CPD session we will explore games and other resources that can be used in the primary classroom to engage children with the science of computing. We will see how following a few simple rules can lead to surprising, engaging and fun results. How we can reduce a 1000 step problem to just 10 steps. The focus will be on practical activities to develop an understanding of computer science, without using a computer.
We will look at adapting activities for different ages and abilities, and linking activities to the new Computing Programme of Study. And yes, we will talk about al-gorithms.
This session is aimed at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 teachers but others may benefit.
The session will be delivered by Nick Cook, a lecturer in Computing Science at Newcastle University, and will take place in Seminar Room 7.01, 7th Floor, Claremont Tower. Directions are available on our Working With Schools pages.
Thanks are due to Ashleigh Lawrence, ICT Coordinator of Benton Dene Primary School, who has kindly shared her planning for transition to the new curriculum. This has been very useful for the development of the session.
