About this event

The CRUK City of London Centre is co-hosting a webinar exploring the challenges of experiencing cancer personally or supporting a loved one, while working in cancer research. This juxtaposition will be experienced differently by everyone, and the webinar considers a variety of angles. As cancer researchers, is knowledge of disease mechanisms and treatment options a comfort, or a burden? Work can be a positive way to distract ourselves from troubling personal news, but how is this achieved when studying the very disease that threatens us, our family or friends?

You will hear from Prof. Tim Witney, Professor of Molecular Imaging at KCL and Prof. Sandra Strauss, Professor of Medical and TYA (Teenage and Young Adult) Oncology at UCL, and Trustee & Scientific Advisor at the Ruth Strauss Foundation. This will be followed by a panel Q&A with colleagues based across the network of CRUK Centres, including Prof. Lesley Stark from the CRUK Scotland Centre. The discussion that will consider ways to support wellbeing and allow personal concerns and professional knowledge to co-exist.

Let's Talk About... is a collaborative research webinar series organised by the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Centres. Hosted online throughout the year, the webinars aim to shine a spotlight on various equality, diversity and inclusivity topics in cancer research.

This free webinar will be held from 12-1pm on Thursday 2 October 2025. Staff and students working in cancer research are welcome to attend (attendees do not need to be based at a CRUK Centre).
