Description

LET'S TALK ABOUT RACE

is a discussion group where we talk about race / racism.

When I was growing up, Black British history wasn't really a thing outside of the Transatlantic Slave Trade (and they didn't even teach that properly).

Now we know that the Black presence in Britain goes back to Roman times and that Britain has had a relationship with Africa and Africans that goes way before Slavery and living memory.

It's a history that goes back to "blackamoors," and Afro-Romans in 4th century York. So, why when we learn British history, do we not learn about the Black soldiers at Trafalgar or even the Black and brown soldiers on the frontlines during the world wars?

In the whitewashing of British history, Britishness has been whitewashed and there is an amnesia when we talk about our history.

But in the airbrushing of history, has this tained how we look at the sciences, arts, and other humanties subjects?

This is aimed at students but all welcome
