Overview
Welcome to 'Let's Talk History' our series of talks on history on all different sorts of topics; from local legends to national scandals. Below you will find the details of our upcoming talks which will be held at Leigh Town Hall. Each event starts at 7:00pm.
Tuesday 20th January - 'The History of Lowton Workhouse & Mount Tabor' by Dr Thomas McGrath
Lowton Workhouse was an integral, and feared, part of the local community in the nineteenth century. Join Thomas as he tells us about the people who lived in the workhouse, and later at 'Mount Tabor' and what life was really life Lowton residents in the past.
Tuesday 17th February - 'The lesser-known collections of Archives: Wigan & Leigh' by Helen Raymond
The collections at Archives: Wigan & Leigh date back 800 years, and archivist Helen Raymond has delved into these to pull out some of the unique, special and unexplored documents and books which tell the story of local people with a global connection.
Tuesday 17th March - 'Clog Dancing: An Illustrated History & Fascinating Facts' by Alex Fisher
Alex Fisher brings history to life with an entertaining talk on this local tradition, complete with live clog dancing!
Note: Ticket price includes refreshment of tea/coffee and biscuits.
Note: Further talks will be released later in the year. There are no talks planned for July, August or December 2026.
