DETAILS

"Every organisation in Britain is affected by mental distress and ill health in the workforce. At any one time one worker in six will be experiencing depression, anxiety or problems relating to stress.

91 million days are lost each year due to mental health problems. The total cost to employers is estimated at nearly £35 billion each year. That is equivalent to £1,300 for every employee in the UK workforce. (Figures updated 2017)

Simple steps to improve the management of mental health in the workplace should enable employers to save 30% or more of these costs - at least £8 billion a year. (Ref: https://www.centreformentalhealth.org.uk/employment-economic-case)"

Focussed on providing practical knowledge and support, this seminar will give information and guidance for HR Professionals and Line Managers on how to help manage Mental Health in the workplace.

Those attending will gain an understanding of what support is available, e.g. EAP, Critical Incident, Workplace Mediation and Training services; and, through the use of Case Studies, the seminar will provide an insight into approaching mental health issues and how to engage talking therapies. Alongside the speakers' input there will also be a Q&A opportunity for attendees to ask for general guidance on issues from a HR practitioner experienced in this issue.

Speakers

MHM is a leading mental health charity based in Sunderland with services the length of England.

Their vision is that everyone gets the personalised services and support they need.

To make this vision a reality, their mission is to help people achieve good physical and mental wellbeing and live life to the full.

They support up to 15000 people each month with services ranging from housing to crisis services to helplines to talking therapies.

The Charity’s objectives are, for the benefit of the public, to promote the well-being of persons who are experiencing mental or physical health problems or illnesses, however those problems or illnesses have arisen, and their families and carers, both in the UK and overseas.

MHM’s commitment remains to be a driving force and leader in the provision of innovative services that enable evidence base recovery for people with mental health and complex needs in our society.

A large part of their offer is mental health training and learning provided by Neil Gregory and Andrea Rutherford, and we'll be joined by Andrea at this event.

Andrea has over 10 years’ experience in the training and education sector and gained valuable experience working with the long term unemployed work programme, mental health/health conditions and NEET allowing her to understand the barriers individuals face to return to education, training and the labour market. As a Learning and Development Officer at MHM, Andrea delivers training to external organisations using a range of teaching, assessment and evaluation methods. Andrea is committed to promoting mental health awareness, tackling discrimination and stigma and helping to change the way mental health is viewed. Andrea is a firm believer in personal development and has lots of enthusiasm, with a passion for teaching and training.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This is a free event for both CIPD and non-CIPD Members. Business Owners/Managers are very welcome to book.

BOOK A PLACE AND CAN’T ATTEND?

This event is free to attend, however, we do reserve the right to charge a £10 no-show fee for those who are unable to attend who do not contact us with apologies (except in exceptional circumstances).

All of our branch events are organised by volunteers who give up their time freely to provide CPD opportunities for others in North Yorkshire, events are funded through branch funds, and our speakers (who at most receive expenses only) give up their time freely to prepare and present their sessions. With this in mind, if you do book on an event and find you’re no longer able to attend – please email nyork@cipdbranch.co.uk and give your apologies to those involved with the event – we really do appreciate this, especially in advance where possible as this might allow us to avoid catering wasteage, but if it’s an unavoidable last minute cancellation we’d still like to hear from you.
