Event description

Description

The results of NPC’s survey, published in Charities taking charge, show that 34% of charity leaders had discussed merging with another organisation at board level in the last 12 months. Trustees are too often resistant to the idea of mergers, and don’t know about the range of models available. This can mean that when charities are under pressure, trustees start to think about a merger too late—and so do not arrive at a good solution.

Trustees should act in accordance with their responsibility under the Charity Code of Governance to think about charitable objectives rather than organisational integrity/survival and regularly and seriously look at the options for merger. Trustees who do not seriously consider merging their charity with another to better serve their cause are failing in their duties and failing people who need them.

It’s time to change the narrative and talk about mergers as a tool for achieving more for beneficiaries. This seminar run in partnership with The Clothworker’s Company, will:

  • Examine how mergers can help charities better serve their beneficiaries
• Explore the options available: a range of merger and sharing models is available for different situations, ranging from full mergers to group structures, and even back office sharing options to reduce costs
  • Discuss the barriers to merging and what trustees can do to overcome them.
