Course Description:

This two day training course is part of our multi-agency training programme for professionals working with young people in Kirklees to develop their skills and knowledge in respect of sexual health and young people.

PLEASE NOTE: You need to attend the Sexual Health Awareness Level 1 course, which includes safeguarding, sex and young people, before you book onto Let’s Talk Sex… training

Course Aim:

To provide participants an understanding of sexual health with an emphasis on 'healthy relationships' and talking with young people about sexual health. Participants will learn about relationships, consent, the role of the internet and social media in young people’s sexual health and body image, contraception, sexually transmitted infections and referral pathways for local/national support services.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Look at diversity and inclusion and how these impact on delivering sexual health support

  2. Understand young people’s developing knowledge of sexuality and impact of peer pressure

  3. Examining values, attitudes and feelings about a range of sexual health issues

  4. Have greater confidence when talking with others about relationships and sexual health

  5. Demonstrate respect for privacy and confidentiality with young people, relevant law/guidance and how it applies to practice.

  6. Know why an understanding of relationships and sexual health is essential when working with young people.

  7. Understand how the internet and social media impacts on young people

  8. Recognise and understand the advantages and disadvantages of different types of contraception

  9. Brief overview of different sexually transmitted infections and implications for young people

  10. Know where to signpost young people for services and how to refer to specialist services for accessing information, support and clinical care/treatment

  11. Identify barriers to service access and how we can work towards reducing these

PLEASE NOTE:

This is a 2 day course. Please check to ensure you have booked on to both Day 1 and Day 2 of the RSE Course. The charge for each day is £10 per ticket + booking fees. YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE A SEPARATE TICKET FOR BOTH DAY 1 AND DAY 2 OF THE COURSE. It is also a requirement that you attend the Introduction to Sexual Health (Level 1) course before attending the RSHE course. This is available to book through Eventbrite.

This course will be held in Seminar Rooms 1 and 2 on the Ground Floor of the Health Centre.

Refreshments: Please note that lunch is NOT provided. Tea and coffee will be provided in the morning and afternoon breaks. There are plenty of cafes/ sandwich shops in the town, as well as a large Asda close to the Dewsbury Health Centre. You are also welcome to bring your own lunch with you.

Parking: This is a town centre location. There is a small pay & display car park at the rear of the Health Centre. There are also several pay & display car parks within walking distance. Being in the town centre there are excellent public transport links.

We aim to start courses promptly at the time given. Please aim to arrive for 8:45am ready for a 9:00am start

Failure to remain until the end will result in you not being issued with a certificate. We would therefore suggest that, in the event you cannot stay for the full duration, you cancel your place and apply for an alternative date.

Agencies or individuals who persistently fail to attend training courses or notify less than 48 hours before the start of the course, may be excluded from future training courses or events.
