About this Event

Join us for a free guided social walk to discover the Rochdale Canal and Ashton Canal as part of the YHA Festival of Walking 2024.

We will be meeting at the YHA Manchester Hostel in Castlefied, before heading off to discover the historic Rochdale Canal. We will walk east through the city centre via Canal Street to Piccadilly Basin, before returning to the hostel for refreshments!

We will be walking at a gentle pace, with plenty of opportunities to pause and enjoy the scenery, and learn more about our historic canals, and the work Canal & River Trust do to care for them.

Canals and rivers are the perfect places to boost your mood and improve your physical and mental health. Even in busy towns and cities, they provide special spaces where you can relax, recharge, and get your body moving. You may even learn a bit of history or see some awesome wildlife!

Points to note:

• This walk is open to all ages. Any children (under-18) must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

• We can only take people on the walk who have booked a place.

• Bookings close 24 hours before the walk starts.

• No dogs.

• This is an outdoor activity, please wear suitable clothes for weather on the day.

• Please arrive no more than 15 minutes before your booked time.

• If you book and then can’t come, please cancel your place via Eventbrite. This frees up the place for another person.

Ramblers Walk Grade: Easy - walks for adults aged 18+ who do not have a severe mobility difficulty.
