About this event

Let's Walk - Oxford to Wolvercote Village Circular Canalside Walk

1pm - 5pm (approx end time) Saturdays

Distance: 8.4 km / 5.25km Duration: 4 hours (with 2 refreshment breaks)

Start and finish point: Green Space at the Hythe Bridge Entrance to The Oxford Canal, Hythe Bridge Street, Oxford, OX1 2EW (what three words ///pack.boat.scan)

Pace: Leisurely, it's advisable to devote the afternoon to this walk

The walk, run by Canal & River Trust, will be led by volunteer walk leaders who are full of interesting information about the local area.

A leisurely afternoon circular walk along the Oxford Canal towpath to Wolvercote Village with a stop at The White Hart community-run pub in Wolvercote for refreshments, toilets and to enjoy the surroundings. The walk will then return to Oxford along the Thames River Path passing Godstow Abbey remains and ancient Port Meadow. A second refreshment stop will be made at The Meadly, Oxford, a pop up pub on the Thames Riverbank, before returning to Hythe Bridge.

This is a leisurely and slow walk which allows time to stop and take photos, take in the local wildlife and generally enjoy the wellbeing effects of being by water.

Please note that the canal path is level and flat but there is one set of steps from the canal up to the road level. The Thames Path is uneven and rutted in places.

Well behaved dogs are welcome to join the walk but must be kept on the lead at all times.

The great thing about walking is that you do not need any fancy equipment. Please just wear comfortable shoes and some water.

We're the charity who look after and bring to life 2,000 miles of waterways, because we believe that life is better by water.

Our research shows that spending time by water, whether it be your lunchbreak, daily commute or just a weekend stroll, really can make us feel happier and healthier.

With ever increasing rates of obesity, stress and declining mental health in the UK, we are uniquely placed to make a significant contribution to improving the wellbeing of millions of people. Our canals and rivers run through some of the most heavily populated communities in England and Wales, providing accessible green and blue space where it’s needed the most.

That’s why, here at the Trust, we're working with volunteers and communities across England and Wales to transform canals and rivers into spaces where local people want to spend time and feel better. We know this will bring wellbeing opportunities to millions.

Our work involves not only looking after our waterways, but promoting them widely to the eight million plus people who have waterways on their doorstep so that many more people benefit from our free, accessible and local source of wellbeing.

We have a range of events which you will be able to take part in around your local waterways.
