Letterpress for Beginners
My most popular workshop! Perfect for beginners, in this half-day session you will learn the ropes of this wonderful, traditional craft. Over the course of the session you will:
-
Be shown how to typeset using a traditional composing stick
-
Discover how to lock up your type in a chase ready for printing
-
Learn how to mix your inks
-
Understand the process of make-ready before we get stuck in with printing
-
Print your own greeting cards, post cards, gift tags, or coasters using lead and wood type in our studio.
As these are small, private sessions you'll get lots of one-on-one tuition. I'm also a massive type nerd, so will probably bore you with all sorts of stories about type and lettering!
Do come with an idea of what you might like to print - a word or short phrase for example. Remember, letterpress is best for producing multiples of the same design.
And at the end of the session you will have your own beautiful hand-letterpressed products to take away.
I'll provide drinks and snacks, though do bear in mind that lunch isn't provided.
Your order confirmation email serves as your workshop ticket, so please bring this along with you on the day. I will send you directions and further details within a few days of receiving your booking.
Print Your Own Wedding Invitations
Come along to my garden studio, and print your own design on my beautiful 1950's Vicobold!
For the couple where 'wedmin' is a delight, not a chore. Come along to my garden studio, and print your own design on my beautiful 1950's Vicobold printing press! Perfect for creative couples and design enthusiasts who want that luxurious, handmade touch. Previous couples have said their guests have commented on their wonderful invitations, and the satisfaction they got when telling them: “we designed & printed them ourselves!”
Booking this session includes:
-
Consultation on your design and invitation needs in the run up to the workshop (email and two phone consultations)
-
Adapting your own digital design into a photopolymer printing plate
-
Printing a single sided design, in one or two ink colours (or a split fountain - the art of blending several ink colours across the press at once)
-
Up to 100 invitations, pre-cut to A5 or A6 size in luxurious, white pure cotton card stock. Soft enough to take a crisp impression, firm enough to hold as a keepsake. It feels, in technical terms, bloody lovely.

THINGS TO CONSIDER
Please only book if you have a finished design ready to go. I will feedback on any changes you need to make in order to make it work well with letterpress. If you're unsure of anything, please just drop me a line.
If you are after something a little different - more than 100 invites, additional items (e.g. RSVPs), or more ink colours, just drop me a note at info@inkandpaperdesign.co.uk and I can tailor a workshop specifically to your needs.
On the day, biscuits and fruit will be provided, but please bring a packed lunch in case we are printing through lunch. I'll pop open a bottle of fizz once we start to wrap up so we can celebrate your beautiful new invitations!

CUSTOM DATE
We launch dates in 3-month batches. Sign up to the mailing list to be the first to hear when new dates go live. If none of the dates listed work for you, or you wanted a particular day for a birthday or celebration, please get in touch. I will do all I can to fit you in.
PLEASE NOTE:
Letterpress printing is a slow and involved activity that requires concentration, strength and patience. As such, these workshops are not suitable for children under 12 or anyone who will struggle to stand for long periods of time. If you have any questions or concerns about this please do drop me a note.
Cancellation Policy:
Two weeks' notice is required for a refund, however I know that life sometimes has a habit of getting in the way. I will happily rearrange dates, and I will always try to fill your spot if you cannot make it. For more information, please email me at info@inkandpaperdesign.co.uk
