Event description

Description

Who is this award for?

This award is aimed at coaches who are looking to develop players (junior and adults) in a club setting.

Before applying for this course candidates should have already attended an Introduction to Bowls Coaching Award or hold a Club Coach Award.

Course Description

The Level 1 Bowls Coaching Award is the second step on the bowls coaching pathway, and follows on from the Introduction to Bowls Coaching Award (IBCA).

The Level 1 Award will introduce Bowls Scotland’s recommended technical model of delivery, and focus on developing this delivery through a number of skills based practices.

The concept of TGfU (Teaching Games for Understanding) will also be introduced, which allows coaches and players to learn and develop skills through games and activities, as opposed to traditional methods of delivery. Topics that were covered on the IBCA such as: What 2 and How 2 Coach Skills; Positive Coaching Scotland; Positive Learning Environments and Health and Safety will be further explored in greater depth on the Level 1 Award.

Candidates should leave the course with the knowledge and confidence to develop players in a Club environment.

Course Duration

14 hours, typically delivered over two full days.

There will also be an element of pre course work that should be completed and brought with candidates on the first day of the course. It is anticipated that this element will take between 1 and 2 hours to complete.

Course Cost

£60 for members of Bowls Scotland or Scottish Indoor Bowling Association affiliated Clubs.

£100 to non-affiliated members.

Assessment

On day 2 of the course coaches will deliver a 10 minute practical coaching session to fellow coaches. On completion of the practical session, coaches are either deemed competent or not yet competent (NYC). If they are deemed NYC at this stage, Bowls Scotland will arrange for the practical session to be reassessed at a time and place that suits both tutor and coach.

The pre course work also forms part of the assessment process.
