Description

Under the Licensing Act 2003, anyone authorising the retail sale of alcohol has to hold a personal licence. In order to qualify for a personal licence, an applicant must hold a licensing qualification which is Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (RQF) accredited, and Government approved.

This qualification, the HABC level two Award for Personal Licence Holders, is both RQF accredited and Government approved, and has been specifically designed to meet the statutory requirements of the Licensing Act 2003.

The course tutors are Steve and Paul who, we believe, provide the perfect combination to deliver this course.

Steve is a retired Police Sergeant, who has been involved in policing the evening economy of a vibrant town centre for over 20 years. Steve was the licensing Sergeant for Doncaster and has a practical understanding of licensing law and its application. Steve now runs his own consultancy business and is the current DPS for the Keepmoat Stadium, the home of Doncaster Rovers FC.

Paul is a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner with 30 years Local Government experience. In addition to having hands on experience of all the Environmental Health specialisms, for the last 10 years Paul has managed the Health and Safety and Licensing functions at England's largest Metropolitan Borough Council. Paul has acquired extensive knowledge of licening law and has practical experience of licence applications, reviews, hearings and enforcement.

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is aimed at individuals working in, or preparing to work in, any industry that involves the retail sale of alcohol. Anyone wishing to sell or authorise the sale of alcohol by retail on licensed premises must hold a personal licence.

How long will it take?

The course will last 8 hours including the examination.

Topics covered

These include the nature, purpose and period of validity of a personal licence, the application process and legal duties when applying for a personal licence, the legal duties of a personal licence holder, the roles, responsibilities and functions of licensing authorities, the nature and strength of alcohol and the effect on the body and the law in relation to premises licences.

How am assessed?

This qualification is assessed by a multiple-choice examination.

Are there ID requirements?

Yes. You will need to bring one of the following to the training course in order to sit the examination:

  • Valid passport (any nationality)
  • UK photo card driving licence
  • Valid EU photo identity card
  • Valid UK firearms licence with photograph
  • Security Licence issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA)
  • ID/Warrant/Prison Service card issued by HM Forces, Police, Prison Service (must be current and valid)
  • Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) Card (MUST have PASS hologram on card)

We will be asking for proof of ID at the beginning of the training course and before the examination.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The venue is conveniently location close to junction 1 of the M18 next to Morrisions supermarket. Ample free parking is available.

What happens after I make an order?

You will be sent a confirmation email together with instructions for the day. A course handbook will also be provided to you prior to the course, which we encourage you to study. We aim to send these out within 7 working days of receiving your order.

What's the refund policy?

No refunds will be given for cancellations made by the student within 14 days of the start of the course unless evidence of exceptional circumstances is presented.

A full refund of the course booking fee will be given if the cancellation is made by SMB Consultancy Group.
