About the Course

Our comprehensive programme of study includes pre-course e-learning using our Moodle platform followed by a full day of our unique ‘building blocks’ facilitation method to engage, enhance, share, and collaborate our knowledge and skills together.

In addition to gaining a fully recognised RQF qualification at level 2 on the national frameworks you will be welcome to join our FREE Meet Up ‘Time to Talk about Mental Health Belfast’ group, set up to provide a social and informal talking environment that brings together practitioners, those seeking to raise awareness and people with lived experience of mental health issues and recovery.

What will I learn?

Unit 1 - Mental health awareness

This unit provides learners with an understanding of mental health through definitions of mental health and the mental health continuum. They will learn how to reduce and challenge the stigma and discrimination, which are often caused by prejudice and a lack of knowledge. The unit also covers mental health statistics and helps to separate mental health facts from the myths.

Unit 2 - Mental health first aid

In unit 2, those taking the qualification will develop the ability to recognise and respond to the signs of mental ill health in themselves and others and be able provide initial help to a person experiencing mental ill health. What is mental health first aid (MHFA)? MHFA is the help offered to someone who is either: » Developing a mental health issue » Experiencing a worsening of a mental health issue » In a mental health crisis

There are four key aims of MHFA:

  • Preserve life

  • Prevent further harm

  • Provide comfort

  • Promote recovery
