Description

Youth Organisations Wolverhampton and Wolverhampton Adult Education Service have combined their resources to offer free, nationally recognised training in youth work for any employees or volunteers leading youth work sessions with a voluntary or community organisation for young people in Wolverhampton*.

The Level 3 NOCN Award in Youth Work Practice will now run as follows:

  • on: every Tuesday evening from Tues 12th September until Christmas 2018 (except school holidays)
  • from: 6:00 - 9:00pm
  • at: Wolverhampton Adult Education Service, Old Hall Street, WV1 3AU

Closing date for applications is Tuesday 18th July 2017.

If you / a member of your staff team who you wish to nominate to undertake this course has completed the NOCN Level 2 Award in Youth Work practice in the last 2 years then you will only need to attend a proportion of the modules. If you haven't done the Level 2 Award in Youth Work Practice in the last 2 years you will need to attend all sessions.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

  • a youth work placement of a minimum of 1 x 2hour session per week for the whole duration of the course which will give them opportunity to, or already includes, taking the leader in charge role for youth work sessions
  • A current enhanced DBS check (with barred list check if they are in regulated activity e.g. a leader in charge of a session)
  • A commitment to the whole course (132 guided learning hours over 15 months)
  • Ability to cope with academic work at the standard of a level 3 qualification (equivalent to an A-Level standard)
  • Commitment to completing 2 e-learning modules (Safeguarding and Prevent) within one month of commencing the course

All applicants must be supported by their organisation in the following ways:

  1. endorsing and supporting the application
  2. encouraging and supporting appliacants to attend every week throughout the course
  3. providing applicants with a placement where they can put into practice what they are learning on the course
  4. helping applicants to undertake and document any practical assignments they are asked to undertake (normally a short write up and supporting evidence e.g. photographs, video etc)

Places are limited so please make sure that you / the staff you approach are really engaged in delivering youth work, have the necessary staying power to complete a course of more than 12 months duration, and are committed to working for you after you / they have completed the course.

This course is not open to individuals just wanting to add to their CV, but is all about increasing the skill level of those already engaged in, and wanting to continue to be engaged in, youth work in the city.

Depending on demand, we may have to limit the number of places for staff from any single organisation. If this is the case, managers will be asked to make a decision about who they would most like to do the course for the benefit of their organisation.

Priority criteria for allocating places are as follows:

  • suitable candidates who passed the level 2 Award in Youth Work Practice courses run by YOW in the past 2 years
  • applicants from voluntary and community organisations that have submitted a formal expression of interest in being part of HeadStart
  • voluntary and community organisations whose main beneficiaries are young people in Wolverhampton*

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Stephen Dodd on 01902 328985 or email steve@yow.org.uk

* If not all of the places are taken up by local VCOs then any remaining places may be open to VCOs from outside of Wolverhampton, or statutory partners at a cost. Please ring Stephen Dodd on 01902 328985 to discuss.
