Independent Advocacy Practice -Training to Support City & Guilds Level 4

6th, 7th and 8th June 2022 9.30am-12.30pm

You may be required to complete a more detailed skill scan document if further information is required.

This is for those individuals who act as independent advocates in statutory and/or non-statutory roles. This qualification provides the opportunity to develop both the skills and knowledge required to provide independent advocacy

The mandatory content of this qualification covers:

Unit 401 - The principles and practice of independent advocacy (Includes CPD accreditation which is unique to training with Cloverleaf Advocacy Connect.) *

Unit 402 - The legislative framework which impacts upon the independent advocacy role Policy and legislation

Unit 403 - Entitlements to independent advocacy

Specialist roles are covered in the optional units:

Unit 404 - Independent mental capacity advocacy

Unit 405 - Independent mental health advocacy

Unit 406 - Independent advocacy within adult social care

Unit 407 - Independent advocacy with children and young people (not currently offered by Cloverleaf Connect)

Unit 408 - Independent complaints advocacy

Unit 409 - Community advocacy. (not currently offered by Cloverleaf Connect)

Structure To achieve the Level 4 Independent Advocacy qualification, learners must achieve a minimum of 28 credits in total.

• A minimum of 25 credits from the Mandatory units.

• A minimum of 3 credits from the Optional units.

Unit 401 Principles and Practice of Independent Advocacy Credit value: 11

Guided Learning Hours: 73 City & Guilds Aim: The unit aims to support learners to develop the practical skills and knowledge required to provide Independent Advocacy support’

This is a mandatory unit Cloverleaf Connect provides CPD accredited training to support Unit 401, enabling you to build upon your knowledge base for the submission of a portfolio of evidence, share experience from practice and effectively support your advocacy partner.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Understand Independent Advocacy practice 2. Understand the development of Independent Advocacy practice 3. Provide Independent Advocacy 4. Support an individual to make decisions 5. Develop own practice as an advocate 6. Challenge decisions and decision-making processes 7. Maximise the impact of Independent Advocacy within communities 8. Understand non-instructed advocacy 9. Safeguard individuals in the context of the role of the Independent AdvocateUnit 402 The Legislative Framework Which Impacts Upon the Independent Advocacy Role Policy and Legislation

Credit Value: 10 Guided Learning Hours: 53 City and Guilds Aim: The unit aims to support learners to develop their understanding of legislation required to provide Independent Advocacy support. This is a mandatory unit Cloverleaf Connect provides a pre-recorded, self-directed learning resource in order that you may proceed at your own pace. This will be advanced to you on completion of the training provided for unit 401.

Learning Outcomes: 1. Understand current human rights legislation 2. Understand current mental capacity legislation 3. Understand current mental health legislation 4. Understand current adult social care legislation 5. Understand current legislation affecting children and young people 6. Understand complaint processes and regulations

Unit 403 Entitlements to Independent Advocacy

This is a mandatory unit at Level 3 Credit Value: 4 Guided learning hours: 26 City and Guilds Aim: The unit aims to support learners to develop their understanding of rights and/or access to receive Independent Advocacy support. Cloverleaf Connect provides a pre-recorded, self-directed learning resource in order that you may proceed at your own pace. This will be advanced to you on completion of the training provided for unit 401.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Understand access to Independent Advocacy 2. Understand who is responsible for ensuring access to advocacy

Optional Units: Unit 404 Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy Credit Values: 5 Guided learning hours: 39 City and Guilds Aim: The unit aims to support learners to develop the practical skills and knowledge required to provide Independent Advocacy support within current mental capacity legislation. This is a statutory role in England. Cloverleaf Connect provides training to support the Level 4 qualification by guiding the learner through the advocacy roles, responsibilities and decisions related to the IMCA role. This is under-pinned by knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (2005).

Learning Outcomes: 1.Undertake the role and responsibilities of an Independent Mental Capacity Advocate

2. Provide advocacy for long term change of accommodation referrals 3. Provide advocacy for serious medical treatment referrals 4. Provide advocacy support and representation to people affected by deprivations of liberty

Unit 405 Independent Mental Health Advocacy Credit Value: 5

Guided Learning Hours: 39 City and Guilds Aim: The unit aims to support learners to develop the practical skills and knowledge required to provide Independent Advocacy support within current mental health legislation. This is a statutory role in England. Cloverleaf Connect provides training to support the role of the IMHA within the context of key legislation and environmental/socio-economic factors which influence the prevalence of mental ill health and use of advocacy services.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Undertake the role and responsibilities of an Independent Mental Health Advocate 2. Respond to advocacy issues 3. Provide culturally appropriate Independent Mental Health Advocacy support 4. Work in ways that minimise risk and promote safety Unit 406 Independent Advocacy Within Adult Social Care Credit Value: 5 Guided Learning Hours: 39

City and Guilds Aim: The unit aims to support learners to develop the practical skills and knowledge required to provide Independent Advocacy support within current adult social care legislation. This is a statutory role in England. Cloverleaf Connect provides training to support the delivery of advocacy under the Care Act (2014) by using key aspects of legislation to reflect upon the practice of the advocate within focused areas of responsibility.

Learning Outcomes:

1.Undertake the role and responsibilities of the Independent Advocate arranged under adult social care legislation

2. Support an individual through the assessment process

3. Support an individual through the care and support planning process

4. Support an individual through the review process

5. Support an individual through safeguarding processes

Unit 408 Independent Complaints Advocacy Credit Value: 4 Guided Learning Hours: 39 City and Guilds Aim: The unit aims to support learners to develop the practical skills and knowledge required to provide independent complaints advocacy. Cloverleaf Connect offers training to guide the learner through the NHS and social care complaints service, exploring how an advocacy partner may be best supported, whilst also using standard complaints procedures.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Understand procedures which impact on health and social care complaints

2. Understand the social context of NHS and social care complaints

3. Undertake the role of the Independent Complaints Advocate

4. Support an individual at meetings

Assessment of the qualification Learners must: Complete a portfolio of evidence for each of the units.
