Description

Join us at Lewisham Library for our FREE health lecture series as we learn about different conditions affecting our community. Get to grips with the basic biology, understand how to recognise symptoms and what to do to treat and prevent conditions.These run every other Tuesday on the ground floor meeting room.

12th September

Breast Cancer

Speaker Dr Anthony Cheung

There will be a 30-40 min lecture followed by 10-15 mins of Q&A.



26th September

Diabetes

We will be joined by Dr Chibuzo Mowete of Lewisham Hospital.

Our next lecture will introduce us to Diabetes and how to recognise, manage and avoid the condition.

There will be a 30-40 min lecture followed by 10-15 mins of Q&A.



10th October

Alzheimer's Disease

We will be joined by Dr Alinda Fernandes, postdoctoral fellow at King's College London.

This lecture will discuss the biology behind Alzheimer's disease and other long term neurological conditions, the effects this can have on sufferes and the methods of treatment currently being explored.

There will be a 30-40 min lecture followed by 10-15 mins of Q&A.


24th October

Breast Cancer

We will be joined by Dr Alinda Fernandes, postdoctoral fellow at King's College London.

This lecture will explore the different types of breast cancer diagnosed, the biology behind how breast cancer develops and the treatment options currently being used and innovated.

There will be a 30-40 min lecture followed by 10-15 mins of Q&A.



7th November

Hair Loss

We will be joined by Trichologist Eleanore Richardson of the Fulham Scalp and Hair Clinic.

This lecture will identify the different types of hair loss that can present, with a focus on the hair loss typically associated with the styling of afro-caribbean hair, and ways to prevent these conditions.

There will be a 30-40 min lecture followed by 10-15 mins of Q&A.



21st November

Effects of Alcohol

We will be joined by Dr Chibuzo Mowete of Lewisham Hospital.

This lecture will discuss the biology of what happens when we consume alcohol, the impact alcohol consumption can have on our health and the methods for reducing intake and treating alcohol addiction.

There will be a 30-40 min lecture followed by 10-15 mins of Q&A.



5th December

Vaccinations

We will be joined by Ross Goodson, final year medical student of Imperial College London.

There will be a 30-40 min lecture followed by 10-15 mins of Q&A.

This lecture will explore the importance vaccinations have had on our global health, the biology behind how a vacination works and the busting of some common myths associated with vaccinations.



The lectures are FREE and all are welcome to attend.
