The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) aims to protect the public by helping employers make safer recruitment decisions, and by barring individuals who pose a risk to vulnerable groups, from working in certain roles.

It is important that employers have good recruitment practices in place. DBS checks can play a part in this process but should not be seen as the only safeguarding measure.
