Lewisham Urban Opera Community Workshop

We'll be singing, dancing and story telling, but above all - we're going to have fun! With a range of industry experts we will be working together to create our Lewisham Urban Opera, a part of the Lewisham Borough of Culture Celebrations 2022

Opera, the ultimate art-form, combines music, stories, drama, visuals, choreography, stagecraft and so much more that there is a part to play in our Urban Opera for anyone who wants one.

Building on the Royal Opera House’s iconic Write an Opera programme (1979-2015), we will collaborate in every aspect: composing music and scripts, designing sets, performing, managing and advertising every element. This process gives vulnerable communities a voice, builds confidence, strengthens communities, develops transferable skills and reduces isolation – needed now more than ever – in a big shout of ‘WE ARE HERE!’.

Now in 2022, led by an exciting team of professional creatives, including the world-famous and wonderful Gwyneth Herbert as lyricist and composer, communities across Lewisham will come together to develop a spectacular show to celebrate the hope of a worldwide post-Covid resurgence during their 2022 Borough of Culture year.

Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
