Are you looking for leisure time with health benefits? Would you like to meet new people? Look no further – attend a local tea dance!
Supported by Waltham Forest Culture and now led by Akademi, the UK’s leading South Asian dance charity, these popular monthly events in Chingford and Leyton attract a friendly crowd who enjoy a cup of tea and a twirl around the dance floor.
This new format tea dance at Leyton will give the opportunity to try new dance styles and experience music from around the world. We will have professional dancers on hand every month to show you the steps and to provide a small performance. The event runs from 1pm - 4pm, with opportunities to dance as much or as little as you want, enjoy the music and socialise.
How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
Visit our website at akademi.co.uk/teadances or email Claire@akademi.co.uk or Giulia@akademi.co.uk
Do I need to know how to dance to attend?
No, anyone can attend, whether you have danced before or not. We will have a professional dancer available once per quarter to teach you the steps and friendly volunteers to help you.
I am not able to stand for very long, or require assistance, is this event for me?
Yes, we welcome all levels of mobility. There will be chairs and tables available both in the main hall and the lounge next door so you can sit and watch and enjoy the music. Or, our dance artist will be available to lead seated dance movements so that you can join in.
Can I pay on the door?
Yes you are more than welcome to pay on the door. Our staff member Giulia will be there to welcome you.
