LFA Festival: Exploring Social Re-purpose Workshop
Date and time
Visit our workshop session where we explore how we can repurpose high street buildings.
About this event
We've created a digital concept model, where each of our sector leaders—health, education, research, commercial, and residential have incorporated their ideas on creating a re-purposed building that explores how stakeholders can benefit individually and collectively.
The concept builds on our collaborative research initiative, Shopping for Health. This is more than a strategy for repurposing vacant space on the high street; it’s a vision that delves into the opportunities for bringing community amenities, education facilities, health services and living spaces into vacant high street units to help tackle health inequalities, improve population healthcare and address the growing crises of social isolation and mental health.
Students and guests will be split into three groups and provided with a baseboard and an ample supply of interconnecting pieces with which to construct a 3D ‘framework’ to inhabit. They will be asked to develop their vision of the high street of the future and ‘inhabit’ their structures through the media of their choice (drawings, models and mixed media etc.).
They should consider uses, form and the core ADP principles of sustainability, belonging and engagement.
Students will be briefed two weeks ahead of a build and review workshop on 16.06.22, where they will be asked to create their models using the kit of parts. In the afternoon they will present their visions of the high street of the future for a review by Westminster and ADP senior staff.
