Event description

Description

All youth practitioners are working with LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and other identities) young people, whether it is recognised or not. Is our language and practice appropriate and inclusive? How can we be sure that we are meeting the needs of these young people?

This one day training course is aimed at all practitioners working with young people who want to develop their understanding of identity, terminology, and the issues faced by LGBT+ young people, in order to ensure that their everyday practice is open, inclusive, and meeting their needs. We will do this by:

  • Exploring the commonplace assumptions that might be made about a person's sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
  • Developing an understanding of appropriate terminology, and inclusive language and practice.
  • Recognising unhelpful attitudes and behaviours and develop the confidence and strategies to challenge this
  • Raising awareness of the potential personal, social and health issues that may affect a young person who is LGBT+
  • Helping you recognise areas of your own practice that need improving and give you the strategies to implement these improvements.

This event is free*, funded by the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group**.

*A fee of £50 will be levied to persons or organisations that book spaces but do not show up for the event.
** Event only open to youth practictioners in Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale.
