This training is open to partner agencies engaged with the BCIF programme, as well as any other organisations working in the health and social care and community sectors.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this training session, participants will have been guided through the following learning outcomes:

An overview of the prevalence of health disparities in the LGBTQ+ community
An understanding of the language and terminology around sexual orientation and gender diversity
An exploration of a theoretical model of internalised homophobia, transphobia and biphobia, and an understanding of its impact on the health and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ people
An introduction to Minority Stress Theory
An understanding of the barriers LGBTQ+ people experience when accessing mainstream services
An understanding of the impact of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia on LGBTQ+ people
An exploration of LGBTQ+ people's experiences of stigma and discrimination
An understanding of microaggressions and their impact on LGBTQ+ people
An exploration of techniques to use to make their organisation more LGBTQ+-inclusive
An understanding of the concept of Allyship and how to be a good Ally
