About this Event

Chaired by the National Trust’s Dr Sean Curran, this discussion will explore the work on the stories and histories from LGBTQ+ communities.

Our panel for the evening will be:

Eleanor Armstrong

Ellie is a PhD candidate at UCL studying representations of gender and sexuality in London science museums. Based on her research, she developed the ‘Queering the Science Museum’ tours, and hosted the ‘Behind the Glass Cabinet’ podcast. Ellie is also an LGBTQ+ tour guide at the V&A and the Scott Polar Museum, and develops tour material for the Bridging Binaries tours at the University of Cambridge Museums.

Sabah Chaudry

Sabah is a transgender Muslim and reluctant activist on most things queer, brown and hairy. Co-founder of Trans Pride Brighton in 2013 and proud trans youth worker since 2014. Writer, public speaker and psychotherapist in training. Top three passions right now: carving out spaces for queer and trans people of colour, making friends with cats and taking selfies from bad angles.

Dr Sean Curran

Sean is Community Learning Manager at Sutton House. They hold a PhD from UCL Institute of Education looking at situating LGBTQ voices in National Trust historic houses. As well as their ground breaking exhibitions at Sutton House ‘Master-Mistress’ and ‘126’ and ‘Sutton House Queered’, Sean has worked on a variety of LGBTQ projects including Historic England’s ‘Pride of Place’, the London Metropolitan Archives’ ‘Speak Out London’ oral history exhibition, and the ‘Twilight People: stories of gender and faith beyond the binary’ exhibition. Sean serves as a committee member for LAGNA (the Lesbian and Gay News Media Archive at the Bishopsgate Institute), and as a steering committee member for the LGBTQ+ History and Archives conference at the London Metropolitan Archives. They also teach LGBTQ+ History at Richmond University.

Amy Dobson

Amy Dobson Assistant Curator at Gunnersbury Park Museum. She is committed to increasing access to museum collections, and is working towards uncovering LGBTQ+ history in west London that past curators have previously overlooked.She is passionate about queer and social history and has researched and delivered talks on LGBTQ+ history for the Royal Air Force Museum and Gunnersbury Park Museum. At any given opportunity, she can be found in historical drag at museum Lates, parties and special occasions.

Dan Vo FRSA

Dan Vo FRSA is museum queer heritage consultant and freelancer. As a Victoria and Albert ambassador he founded the award-winning volunteer-led LGBTQ+ tours at the museum in 2015. He has since developed similar tours for Amgueddfa Cymru National Museum Wales and several University of Cambridge Museums (Fitzwilliam Museum, Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, Museum of Classical Archaeology, Polar Museum and the Zoology Museum).
