About this event

Community • LGBT

Do you have photos tucked away in an album? A box of memorabilia that tells a story? Your history is an essential part of our local LGBTQ+ heritage, and we want to hear it!

Project 93 is thrilled to host a special heritage workshop, part of a new project by arts organisation GRAIN Projects in collaboration with the North Midlands LGBT Older Peoples Group. This project is all about exploring, sharing, and celebrating the unique identities and histories of LGBTQ+ lives across Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire—from past decades right up to the present day.

What to Bring

Please bring along your family albums, photographs, and any memorabilia that helps to illustrate your life story.

Crucially, history is being made every day! We are just as keen to see photos and hear stories from the last few years as we are from decades ago. A photo from a recent Pride event, a memory of finding your community online, or a story about coming out to a friend last week—it’s all part of the rich, ongoing history of our community and we would love for you to share it.

What to Expect

This is a free, friendly, and informal workshop held in the safe and welcoming space of the Project 93 offices. It's a wonderful opportunity to connect with other LGBTQ+ people, share your experiences, and hear the stories that make our community so vibrant.

This workshop is one of a series that will contribute to a public exhibition and publication in 2026, creating a lasting celebration of our area's queer history.

Frequently asked questions

What should I bring to the workshop?

Please bring photos, albums, or memorabilia that tell your LGBTQ+ story in North Staffordshire. We want recent memories too! Think club flyers, Pride pics, or anything that feels important to your journey. History is being made every day.

Do I have to share my story with the whole group?

Not at all. This is a relaxed and informal workshop. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. The main goal is to connect and learn from each other in a welcoming, safe space.

Will my photos and stories be used anywhere else?

This workshop is part of a larger project which will lead to a future exhibition and publication. No images or stories will be used without your express permission, which will be discussed on the day. Your consent is our top priority.

I don't have many photos, can I still come?

Absolutely! While we encourage bringing items, your presence and your stories are the most important part. Please come along to listen, connect with others in the community, and be part of the conversation.

Who is running this workshop?

The workshop is run by arts organisation GRAIN Projects, in collaboration with the North Midlands LGBT Older Peoples Group. It is being hosted by us here at Project 93.

Is the venue accessible?

Yes, the Project 93 office at The Dudson Centre is accessible. When booking your free ticket, please let us know of any specific accessibility requirements you have so we can best support you.

Do I have to stay for the whole event?

Not at all! Please feel free to drop in whenever you can during the session. While you don't have to stay for the full two hours, we do ask that you book a free ticket in advance. This really helps us get an idea of numbers for the day.
