About this event

Recognising that the path to having a family isn’t straightforward for LGBT+ people, we want to help you explore the options available to you and bust a few myths. Every child deserves a safe and loving home. Could you be the one to give them this? Hear from your local not-for-profit fostering service, and Adoption South East, who will be happy to answer all of your questions…

Adoption South East (adoptionsoutheast.org.uk) is a partnership of councils from East Sussex, West Sussex, Brighton & Hove, and Surrey working to make the adoption process quicker and simpler. We have a wealth of expertise in bringing together children with safe, secure, loving and permanent adoptive families.

West Sussex County Council (fosteringwestsussex.org.uk)
Brighton and Hove City Council (brighton-hove.gov.uk/foster)
East Sussex County Council (eastsussex.gov.uk/fostering)
Across Sussex, children who are unable to live with their birth family need foster carers to provide love, care and compassion to help give them the best possible start in life. This could be on a short- or long-term basis and carers receive training, support and competitive pay to help every child achieve their potential.

The event will feature short presentations from our experts, with an opportunity afterwards to join the breakout room of your choice, where you can speak to adoptive parents, or hear first-hand from local foster carers.

We hope you can join us!

Frequently asked questions

Can LGBTQ+ people foster or adopt?

Absolutely! Sexuality or gender identity has no impact on your eligibility to be a Foster Carer or adoptive parent. What is important is that you can provide a child with a safe, loving and stable home.

Can I foster or adopt if I am single?

Yes – you don’t need to be in a relationship to be a Foster Carer or adoptive parent. If you’re single, we recommend that you have a strong support network around you that you can lean on.

Is there support available from other LGBTQ+ Foster Carers or adoptive parents?

Our 3 Fostering teams and ASE are proud to have membership of New Family Social, an LGBTQ+ Fostering and Adoption charity. This means you can apply for free Gold membership, giving you access to a wealth of specialist support, a calendar of networking events and more.
