Pride in STEM is proud to present a virtual focused networking event for LGBTQ+ people of colour in STEM in the UK. As in our previous event organized with Black British in STEM, our goal is to have a frank discussion about what it's like being a person of colour and LGBTQ+ in STEM in our country.

The event will feature:

Dan Hdidouan (he/him) is a South London Moroccan/Italian climate change and renewable energy researcher at Imperial College London. Growing up poor, gay, and confused about our attitude to the environment and each other, he works hard to try and redress this in his professional and personal life.

Nisha Pokar (she/her) is a British born Indian chemist, investigating the synthesis of chiral amines at the University of Leeds. As a late bloomer queer, she is discovering how the combination of race and sexuality may affect her personal and professional life. She loves to challenge society’s normative ideologies, and consider how she can best use her voice as a minority to inspire, motivate and reassure others.

And will be moderated by:

Jamal Kinsella (he/him) is a person of some colour trying to gay up the exam curriculum through his work in the UK education industry. He is a lover of women, men, and communities where research is approachable and impactful (in broad ascending order).

These three phenomenal speakers will be focusing on how the burden of educating people on diversity topics more often than not, rests on the shoulders of historically excluded minorities.

The speakers invite comments from other people of colour on this and other topics in the Q&A portion of the event.

The event is open to everyone, it will be online, and it is expected to last an hour.
