Clare Hall is pleased to host the Liberation Literature Lecture 2018. This year's lecture will be delivered by Anne Sebba. Anne Sebba is an award-winning British biographer, writer, lecturer and journalist. Her lecture is entitled: 'Parisian women and the Nazi Occupation. Uncovering their lives and their relationships'.

Overview: "Why have the images of French women, shaven headed, punished for alleged collaboration, dominated notions of how French women responded to the German Occupation for the last 60 or so years? In the early 21st century, we now must have a more nuanced view of how the women of Paris, in particular, responded to the Nazi Occupation, and to look at the reasons why so many of them have refused to talk about their experiences. Now, as those who are still alive approach their 90's, Anne Sebba has been able to uncover a variety of stories about a range of Parisian women using what Le Figaro has described as La Methode Sebba".

A small exhibition of books from the Chadwyck-Healey Liberation Collection, Cambridge University Library, will accompany the talk.

The lecture will start at 18.00.

The Liberation Literature Lecture series brings together high-profile British and international scholars of literature and historical studies. The series is organised by Clare Hall and the Cambridge University Library and has been made possible thanks to a generous donation from Sir Charles Chadwyck-Healey. The series is convened by Dr Annamaria Motrescu-Mayes, Fellow Clare Hall.
