Event Details

Liberator

Mid-afternoon.  October 1942.  A plane crashes.  A sole survivor.

2015.  September to July.

Five site specific dance encounters that rewind in and around Porlock Vale.

Episode 5 MARSH: Porlock Marsh - Please wear suitable footware and clothing we will be walking over uneven ground for between 1.5 miles to 2 miles.  The entire experience will last approximately 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes.  Unfortunately wheelchairs and buggies are not suitable for this terrain, nor can we welcome dogs ... even well behaved ones!  All further details including the exact location and details on parking will be provided via email once your tickets are purchased.

Liberator Details- In collaboration with The Crown Estate, the National Trust at Holnicote Estate and Porlock Manor Estate, Stacked Wonky Dance Company have created five site specific dance encounters for five different sites in and around Porlock Vale. With additional support from Porlock Arts Festival.

You’ll be able to see these performances between July and September 2015.  The seed idea for Liberator links to the crash of an American bomber on Porlock Marsh in 1942, when 11 people lost their lives and one person, a staff sergeant, survived.

Performances will take place in a variety of spaces - glade, field, barn, hilltop and marsh – and will be seen at different times of day.  You can watch just one or all five as they unfold over the summer, culminating in a finale on Porlock Marsh on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 September.  Tickets are available from www.stackedwonky.com.

Stacked Wonky Dance Company

Stacked Wonky is a contemporary dance company led by Artistic Director, Sarah Shorten, buoyed up and inspired by a very strong group of performers, designers, musicians, mentors and makers of all sorts. Over the past 10 years it has been quietly making work/commissions for unusual places – Trafalgar Square, Clovelly Court Estate, Museum of Childhood etc, resurfacing in 2015 with “Liberator”, a box-set of four site episodes performed in the Vale of Porlock to critical acclaim. “Anarchic and exuberant, the movement she creates is beautiful” say Time Out. Sarah has been supported by various organisations such as Arts Council England, Greenwich & Docklands International Festival and Dance South West. The Landings is Stacked Wonky's latest production based in West Somerset.
