About this event

The St Stephen's Consort directed by Nicholas Ansdell-Evans presents another varied programme of unaccompanied choral music following their tour to Normandy this summer. This concert features extracts from Francis Poulenc's Cantata "Figure Humaine" setting texts by Paul Eluard. Written just before the Liberation of France, it looks forward to the restoration of liberty. It is surely one of the twentieth century's most exciting and uplifting pieces of choral music.

The programme also includes folksong settings by Timothy Salter, works by Stanford, Imogen Holst and Cheryl Frances-Hoad, and the UK premiere of Nicholas Ansdell-Evans' setting of Psalm 150, Laudate Dominum, commissioned for this choir.

The St Stephen's Consort was founded in 2019 and provides opportunities for young professional singers to perform challenging a capella repertoire.

Tickets in advance £18 or £10 under-25 (and £20/£10 on the door).
