Library/ Book champion training for primary schools
Wed 19 April 2017, 09:15 – 15:30 BST
Five of our primary schools are working on a pilot project with the National Literacy Trust to revitalise primary school libraries with training for support staff to act as library/book champion for the school. As part of the project participants will choose new books for their school, thanks to generous support from the Man Charitable Foundation and Browns Books for Students.
The five schools selected for the pilot programme are Ashmole, Henry Fawcett, Reay, St Andrew's CE, Walnut Tree Walk. Participants from other schools are very welcome to attend the training but would not be eligible for the gift of new books.
The course is led by writer and coach Wyl Menmuir and is aimed at TAs/support staff tasked with developing the school library. Literacy coordinators and senior leaders are most welcome and encouraged to attend these sessions too. We will explore:
- assessing and making the most of existing stock
- selecting books and recommending to readers
- engaging pupils and parents
- making best use of pupil or parent volunteers
- signposting to other resources
The course takes place over three Wednesdays: 22 March, 19 April and 26 April.
The second session will be held on 19th April at St Andrew's, Kay Road SW9 9DE. Please arrive for a 9.30 start. Lunch will be provided.
