Event description

Description

This event will focus on career paths both within academia and outside of it (in industry). After a short welcome by the Dean of The Bartlett, Professor Alan Penn, the session will have five phases:

  1. Mapping career trajectories. Three senior and three junior academics/researchers will each map their career paths from completion of the PhD to current post. The idea behind this is to get students thinking about how to start their own pathway. We aim to showcase career paths both within traditional routes (within academia) and those who have found work outside of academia/in industry.
  2. Prof. Murray Fraser will speak on impact of doctoral research, and give some real examples of impact generated from Bartlett researchers.
  3. Alice Chilver, Business Development Manager at The Bartlett, will offer a short overview of UCL enterprise.
  4. Claire Arbon from UCL Advances will lead the final session. She will offer a short presentation on how UCL Advances can help students and she will introduce some funding that is available. Towards the end of this session, UCL Career Services will introduce their department and what it is they can do to help. Finally UCL Grad School will briefly talk about the Research Development Framework.

Afterwards our PhD reps will host drinks at a nearby pub.
