Event description

Description

2018 marks the 250th anniversary of the world’s very first ‘circus’ in London.

In this free one-hour walk, guide and local historian Jiff Bayliss will tell the story of the Joseph Grimaldi (1778-1837), the ‘Clerkenwell King of Clowns’. Hailed as the father of modern clowning, Grimaldi became a huge celebrity and spent much of his life both performing and living in Clerkenwell. The tour will include his local home and final resting place.

Presented by Clerkenwell and Islington Guides' Association in partnership with Islington Library and Heritage Services.
